New connection costs come into effect on July 5, 2025, and update to multi-occupancy residential metering
Distribution Extension Policy update
On March 5, 2025, the B.C. Utilities Commission approved our application to update our distribution extension policy to help streamline upgrades and reduce the cost of connecting new customers. These changes will come into effect on July 5, 2025. Learn more about our updated policy.
Multi-occupancy residential metering update
Effective April 1, BC Hydro will no longer provide master meter service to new multi-occupancy buildings or new residential units within multi-occupancy buildings (excluding secondary suites). Instead, these units will require individual metering. This change follows a proposal in our 2024 Rate Design Application, which the BC Utilities Commission approved in February 2025. By transitioning to individual metering, residents of these units will become direct BC Hydro customers, gaining access to the same services, rate options, energy management programs, and customer assistance initiatives available to all residential customers.
