Upgraded metering helps ensure we meet your electricity needs

We’ve modernized B.C.'s electricity system to improve service and reliability for our five million customers. As part of this, we’ve installed more than 1.9 million electricity meters called 'smart meters' – today's standard for the BC Hydro system. With digital and mechanical meters becoming obsolete, these meters are becoming the standard for utilities across North America.

Increased reliability and benefits for you

Smart meters work together to form a communications network to periodically relay your electricity use data to us. This helps us to better manage our electricity grid, and improve service and reliability.

The meters also measure more detailed information about your electricity use and provide you with the ability to track your daily usage using our online electricity tracking tools, available in your MyHydro account.
