Residential exempt rate with time-of-day pricing
The residential exempt rate with time-of-day pricing is an optional rate plan that became available to eligible farm customers in June 2024.
On this plan, electricity is more expensive during the evening and cheapest overnight.
How this rate plan works
All electricity use in a billing period is charged at the standard Energy Charge.
Then, we apply a discount of 5 cents per kWh to all electricity that was used overnight (11 p.m. to 7 a.m.) and a surcharge of 5 cents per kWh to all electricity that was used during the on-peak period (4 to 9 p.m.).
No discount or surcharge is applied to electricity used during the other hours of the day.
This is a combination of rate schedules 1151 and 2101 of the Electric Tariff.

Eligibility
If you're currently on the residential tiered rate but your property is classified as a farm and the electricity is for farm use, you may be eligible for the residential exempt rate with time-of-day pricing.
Electricity service under the residential exempt rate with time-of-day pricing must not be used for:
- Any dwelling other than a single-family dwelling.
- The processing of farm products that aren't produced on your farm.
- The selling of farm products or other products to the public, other than from a small roadside stand.
- Any commercial use not normally carried out on a farm.
How to declare your eligibility

Electric vehicle metering only
If you have a separate electricity meter on your property that's specifically used for charging an EV, you have the option to choose this rate plan for your EV meter only, keeping your main meter on another rate plan.
To add a separate electricity meter to your property, hire a contractor and follow our express connection process.
