BC Hydro Electricity Consumption Check

BC Hydro provides energy efficient upgrade rebates in the Home Renovation Rebate program to customers who have high bills from heating their homes with electric heat. Rebate eligible upgrades include insulation, heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and windows and doors.

Homes heated by electricity use electric baseboards, heat pumps or electric furnaces to heat their home.

Eligible electrically heated homes include single family dwelling, duplex, row home or townhouses and mobile homes on permanent foundations. Apartments and condos are not eligible for rebates.

If you are a BC Hydro customer and heat your home with electricity, use this quick check to allow you to confirm if your home meets the minimum electricity consumption required to be eligible for rebates before you start any upgrades.

How it works:
Your homes electricity consumption is compared to the average electricity consumption of electrically heated homes of the same size, over the past three years.

Typically, the average electrically heated 1800 square foot single family home on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland uses more than 16,500 kwh/yr.

Enter your home’s square footage and BC Hydro account number below. Only use this tool if your home is heated by electricity and you’re a BC Hydro customer. If your home is heated primarily by natural gas, oil or propane, you do not need to meet a minimum electricity consumption.

By entering your BC Hydro account number, we'll look at the past three years electricity consumption at your home. The square footage of your home will be used to determine if your home has high electricity bills relative to the size of your home. Unsure of the square footage of your home, find out by check the BC Assessment property search.

Homes heated primarily by natural gas, oil or propane may be eligible for rebates funded from our partners, FortisBC or CleanBC. You do not need to use electricity consumption check. Visit FortisBC or CleanBC Better Homes to see available rebates.

Information

Unfortunately, you're not eligible for rebates funded by BC Hydro's Home Renovation Rebate program based on your home's electricity consumption.

Rebates provided by BC Hydro to customers who heat their homes with electric baseboards, heat pumps or electric furnaces must meet a minimum electricity consumption per year.

BC Hydro rebates are targeted at customers who have the highest bills relative to the size of their home and provide significant opportunity to save electricity.

Based on the annual electricity used at this premise and the opportunity to save electricity we’re not able to provide you a rebate.
