Request pre-approval for condo and apartment rebates

Rebates are for qualifying projects in strata, equity co-op, or market rental suites.

A pre-approval code is required to apply for rebates. Before requesting pre-approval, ensure you've planned your project with a qualified contractor and have approval from your strata council or equity co-op board or are the owner of the market rental.

Once your request is submitted, we'll review it and email you a response within five business days.

BC Hydro

BC Hydro provides electricity services for most communities in British Columbia. If you receive billing statements with the BC Hydro logo at the top (see example at right) of your bill, you should select BC Hydro as your electric utility provider.

City of New Westminster

Residents of the City of New Westminster receive electric services from their local provider, the City of New Westminster Electrical Utility. If you receive a City of New Westminster bill for your electricity (see example at right), you should select City of New Westminster as your electric utility provider.

Residential suite information

The suite must be your primary residence year-round. Suites in buildings built less than 12 months ago aren’t eligible for rebates.

Multi-unit residential building type

Eligible building types

Only suites in the following building types are eligible.

Apartment/condo building: Larger multi-unit residential buildings with major common area and central systems. Includes low-rise (three to six storey) and high-rise (seven or more storey) buildings.

Stacked townhome: A three- or four-storey townhome building with one unit stacked above another. Each unit has its own front entrance and there are no shared corridors.

Multiplex: Small scale, multi-unit housing with six or more units.

Suites in a single-family home, duplex, or side-by-side townhome aren’t eligible for this program. Please see the Home Renovation Rebate program instead.

Low rise (three to six storey)

High rise (seven or more storey)

Stacked townhome (three- or four-level townhome building with one unit stacked above another)

About primary heating systems

If you’re unsure how your suite was primarily heated before your upgrades, ask your contractor

Electricity - eligible

Suites heated by electricity typically use electric baseboards, where one or more baseboards provide heat to a single room. Other systems that use electricity are electric boiler, electric forced-air furnace, electric radiant in-floor, and electric radiant ceiling tiles.

Natural gas - not eligible

Suites heated by natural gas typically use a natural gas boiler serving hot water radiators or in-floor heating. Other systems that use natural gas are furnaces and hydronic baseboard heaters.

Oil and propane - not eligible

Suites heated by oil or propane typically use boiler. Other systems that use oil or propane are furnaces that moves heat throughout the suite in ducts and hydronic baseboard heaters.

Fireplaces

Gas and wood fireplaces are considered secondary heating sources, not primary.

Electricity

Suites with water heated by electricity use an in-suite electric storage tank or tankless on-demand water heater.

Natural gas

Suites that use natural gas to heat their water will have an in-suite storage tank, tankless water heater, or a condensing storage tank.

Oil and propane

Typically, suites that use oil or propane to heat their water will have an in-suite storage tank, where water is heated and stored in the tank.
